The Central African Republic has the second-to-lowest level of human development in the world. Rebel groups control parts of the country, which continues to experience sporadic surges of violence against the backdrop of a disintegrating state.

WFP distributes food to the internally displaced, host communities and affected local populations, as well as providing food in exchange for building or repairing community assets to strengthen longer-term recovery.

In Bambari, WFP expects to provide 153,589 Mt of food with the support of its partner in the region Cooperazione Internazionale (COOPI), an international NGO that has been working in the Central African Republic for more than 40 years.”

While still pregnant, I travelled 70 km to reach Bambari. My boys, my husband and I survive thanks to the help of WFP, which supplies us with food.”
